Thought that this story was rather interesting. I know that I don't feel as stressed out AFTER a dive as before. Thoughts?

Scuba Diving as a STRESS relief

I couldn't have said it better myself. I work in a busy ER as a nurse... each day seems to get busier and busier. Increased number of patients, decreased staffing, lack of support from administration, less and less patients that actually see their primary MD's for care, sicker patients with little to no knowledge of their medical conditions and all of this with a smile because if your nurse wasn't happy when dealing with any patient, you write a bad review (never mind that I prevented 3 MD's from prescribing med's that would kill you, calmed your fears, offered you education about everything that has happened, cleaned your wounds, dressed them according to best practice and managed to document everything along the way)...

Don't get me wrong... I couldn't imagine doing anything else, but that doesn't mean it's not stressful. I find myself thinking of my next dives, remembering old ones and enjoying the memories I've obtained along the way. All of that calms me down, brings me back to reality, and helps me do my job better.

Thanks for this post.

I doubt that the first dozen or so dives help with your stress level but after you half way figure out what the **** you should be doing and are able to do some of these things fairly well, diving is great for the mind. Nothing says: "I'll have a beer and a Grouper sandwich." like a few nice dives.
