I,m new to diving and am very pleased with PADI , why all thi Anti PADI sentement here ? Mike S are you with PADI as well ? Have I trained with the worng organisation ?

I only got qualified this year & posts like this are really starting to worry me . Should I stop diving for now so I can get someone else to train me ?

PADI is the biggest, so they not only produce the most divers, they will also produce most X divers just because they are the largest. X can be least qualified, most qualified, etc.

IMO people who don't get what they should out of OW can NOT fault the agencies. They can fault the instructor, but if you don't learn the material, and don't take the time to pick a good instructor, than who's fault is that?

The majority of the divers in the world are PADI trained, as are the majority of the instructors, DM's, etc. That statistic applies to SB members I'd assume, and many of the people who love to Bash PADI, are PADI trained.

Sorry for the hijack, off topic post :D

They can if the agency has left out things that should be included.

Wow! Our aquarium just requires OW cert, 10 logged dives, and some basic medical info - can be from your own doctor's checkup. They pretty much need as many volunteers as they can get, and from what I have heard, weekends are usually available. I am planning to apply for it after I get my dives in. Oh, the other thing is that the next orientation session isn't until March.

If you are talking about the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, stop in and say hi to Cobie and Shadow (two adolescent male Dolphins) - they just moved down there from Baltimore.

As long as you've got a good instructor, you'll be find with your course,
regardless of the agency.

Like the others said PADI gets bashed more. Yes I've done PADI courses
but also have done other agencies. The reason I was making the joke
about them was that they seem sometimes to be more orientated on
a new course as a way to increase profits.

It's easier to get an audience with the Pope than a gig with our local aquariums.

If so... it really means that PADI stand for "Put Another Dollar In".

Especially since you can get a PADI Golf Ball Diver certification
no... I'm not kidding... see http://www.mds-scuba.com/edu/golfball.htm

You do have to realize that this isn't a PADI designed specialty though. It is a distinctive specialty which means an instructor came up with the idea and sold it to PADI. Not PADI came up with it on their own. Still is a little insane though.
