Thanks to Scubashawn, Peppermint Paddi, Carrielsal, and Bogrady for putting the new underwater web cam back in Deep Hole. It was a fun day pulling cable, floating the camera/housing attached to the anchor block to Deep Hole and setting the unit on the ground. We knew it was going to be a successful installation when we were greeted by a spotted gar, which nearly collided into Scubashawns mask, and turtles.

Check out the broadcasts at Life Aquatic Underwater Web Cam.

The flow rate is much better but the springs need some work cleaning up after the lengthy slow flow. Contact Pearl to set a time to help with the cleaning and enjoy a dive in the beautiful Spring Lake.

An hour ago when I looked at it the cam still had a time of about noon yesterday. I just went back and looked again and now it's up. The date stamp on it is Nov 14 1:35. Network issue?

Hey Shawn,
The top of the page still has a heading that the camera is down for maintenance.

Dear Swampers,

Science Divers re-deploy the loca underwater camera in deep hole found on the Life Aquatic Underwater Web Cam
web page. The local web camera is available to the public. Listen to the interviews of the volunteer dive team that talked about how the process to deploy the underwater camera in deep hole takes place on this sunny day in November at Aquarena Center Spring Lake San Marcos Texas. The aquatic life enjoyed checking out the scuba divers in this natural spring and the headwaters to the San Marcos river on a sunny day in November in Central Texas. This underwater web camera was donated by the local FOX 7 News television station to provide the community a look under the water at the springs. It has been deployed since 2008 and lives in a hostile environment under the surface of the lake. This underwater web camera and housing requires continual maintenance to keep these images available to the community. Deployed at the deepest depth of the spring this location is called Deep Hole. Re-deployment of the underwater camera was performed on November 14, 2009.

 In reference to Carries question below. We are not allowed to add artificial light to the springs, so anytime there is not adequate light to make pictures, the camera will be dark or a black image on screen. The date time stamp must have gotten off due to a reboot of the camera during the deployment period yesterday. As long as the picture is updating the system is working in real time. This means that the date time stamp displayed is wrong inside the camera setting. The pictures are real and in real time with available lighting. I will try to get remote access from the studios tomorrow, but don't know if that will work. If not, it will take another trip to Aquarena's data closet with my laptop to connect and make the date time accurate to our time in Central Texas.

Thanks again to the local Science Divers for all their efforts yesterday in getting the pictures back up from the springs to be viewed. It was a spectacular day to be out diving at spring lake. Sunny bright day with crystal clear water and great flow rate to move algae and silt out of the springs.

Hey Carrie,

I contacted the folks at Aquarena and it looks like Texas State IT opened the gateway for us after it got blocked this weekend.

confirmed it is updating images from Deep Hole at Aquarena Center. We are live again to view from our desktops.

The camera is sending images back to our FTP server again.

I will look in the morning to make sure it is not a fluke.

Hope it stays open for us to see the scenery at deep hole.

Dear Swampers who are Science Divers,

I am looking for one of the Scientific Diver volunteers (YOU) to lead the underwater camera project as it moves forward this next year. There are many things that are involved to keep it operating and exciting possibilities for improvements or enhancements are certainly possible to make changes in 2010.

I will be available locally to train you and work with you on any issues with the uw camera project as my schedule permits.

Personally, I am currently in my spare time developing Curriculum to start teaching a How to make Documentary videos with underwater video production equipment this next year. It is very time consuming getting all the materials and plans together and my heart is into making this a really worthwhile course.

It will cover all the mechanics of shooting video underwater, with housings, camera's, lights, filters and controls. The emphasis is going to be on Making Documentary Films and Reality Videos. A Practical course to Planning, Filming, and Editing Documentaries of Real Events

This means I must step aside and hand off the lead on the underwater camera project. I am looking to give the reigns to an enthusiastic science diver that will be committed to keeping this underwater camera up and on line operationally for the community, Texas State and Aquarena Center.

Email me if you are interested in taking the lead on this project: shawntv@austin.rr.com

Hey Shawn, let me know if you are still planning on going out Saturday morning so I can get my request in. Otherwise, it may be just too freaking cold!!!

who,s going out sat morning?

Sinus head cold has kept me warm and dry inside and out of the water the last 2 weeks.

Hopefully, this next week I might be getting clear of this thing to handle the water and the colder outside temperatures.

Anyone mention the cold weather yet.............:rofl3:
