Hello,

New to the diving world, and looking at purchasing some gear - just wondering what your thoughts are on an Aqualung titan 1st stage?? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

My girlfriend and my dad have titans. They love it. It is pretty strong first stage she droped a couple of time and it works great . good price also.

Of all the regs I work on I prefer to work on Aqualung Titans for repairs and yearly service.

Still on a little rock in the Pacific

P.S. We have a few Newfies from Newfoundland living here on Saipan !

The Titan 1st stage is a good regulator set. You won't be unhappy with it.

However, since I noticed you're in NewFoundland, which gets rather cold, you might want to consider a 1st stage that is environmentally sealed if you ever plan to dive in cold water. The Titan is not sealed. however, I do believe you can get an "environmental seal kit" for it. Just something to thing about.

That's great guys, thanks for the input (tell the newfoundlanders hi from home :)
I'm a little short on funds, but would definitly like to buy my OWN reg so I don't have to rent a different type all the time. No one has a good enviromentally sealed 1st and 2nd they want to part with for a good price to a new and excited diver? ;)

Thanks again!

OK. This is just one person's opinion. YMMV, of course.

I used a rental Titan last week and just hated it. It didn't breathe nearly as well as my six year old (and discontinued - sob!) Cousteau. One of the divemasters on the boat allowed me to take a few breaths off of his Legend and it was night and day comapred to the Titan. I realize that this ight be the difference between a cerished, cared for, personal reg and a rental that is ridden hard and put away wet. Just the same, I would go with the Legend over the Titan, especially with the prices I've seen some dive shops offering on the Legend ($350- $360!)

I was trained on a Titan, worked fine then. I moved to an Aqualung Legend afterwords which cost quite a bit more, but to me, there was also a noticable difference in breathing, especially at depth. It's also environmentally sealed. The atx50 is another very good environmentally sealed reg from aqualung and from what I've seen it's usually a bit cheaper than a Legend.

I don't think you'll be dissapointed with the Titan, but just remember, it's cheaper to buy once than to buy twice... so get something you'll want to keep for 10 years and still be happy with it. Regulators are the one thing I'd personally splurge on and go budget on the rest. Also, try shopping online, on ebay, or even bargaining with your LDS to get the best price.

I've owned one for the past three years and have over 100 dives on it. Simple, reliable, and sufficient performance for my needs.

Its not the smoothest breathing reg and I've experienced some subtle breathing resistance at depths below 100', but I'm splitting hairs here. The only breathability I've encountered is when the second stage is inverted in the water column, but this is not much of a concern for me.

All in all, I've been very pleased. It is a great value for the money.
