I just got a deal on some GREAT condition 1980's Rockets for $25. I'm thrilled as I was looking for a pair of slipstrems, jetfins or rockets to replace my Atomics. My Atomic splits fold over on themselves pretty easy. A Divemaster on my last dive said "You're quads are bigger than my waist... you're probably 'outkicking' them." I guess one of the downsides to being able to do 1200 lbs leg presses . So he recommended me these fins as they're some of the sturdiest ever made.
Anyway... to my question... My only concern is, Rockets have no escape for water. The footwell is just a cup... Would it be beneficial to drill a few holes in the footwells in order to let some water escape to reduce water weight in the fin? Or will the water flow in and out on it's own?

As long as the hole is clean, it'll be fine. If the hole is ragged, it can eventually tear.

....Boy, talk about extremes! You're going from "extremely soft" to "stiff as a board". Not an exaggeration, my Rockets are the stiffest fins I own; they're great for tight, pinpoint control, but even for legs in awesome shape, they can cause cramps quickly.

All the best, James

Thanks James! yea that's what I figured... I can make sure it's clean! Yea I'm going out on Sunday morning for a Shark dive! So I'll be giving them a shot then. I'm bringing the Atomics too just in case, but I'm hoping the AL work out... Not only because I'm sick of lagging behind my buddy... but also this will complete my rig so it is 100% Aqualung lol .. /Gearsnob

I find it's less WORK to fin with jet fins vs a long flex fin.. alot less kicking to move the same distances ... There a very effective fin... I think some divers try and overpower the fin and don't let the fin do it job... It will wear out a leg if you let it..

Rockets are not at all like Jets:

Jets are not really all that stiff:

Rockets are very stiff:

Do not drill holes in your fins, they will tear out. Jets go like jets whereas Rockets go like, uh, well, not like rockets or Jets.
