Hi,

I'm about to buy a new lightweight regulator for travels, and I have taken a look at the new Aqualung Mikon...

Have anyone tried it? I have been searching like crazy for reviews and user comments but still haven't seen any...

If anyone have any other ideas they're also welcome... And lightweight BCD's as well...

/Lars

I have also been looking at the Mikron for traveling. Have not yet tried it but I have read a few good reviews on it. As for BCs, most brands have specific travel BCs that are lightweight and/or fold up. Mares have the Icon, Seaquest have the Passport, Oceanic has the Islander 2...

As far as the Aqualung regs go, the mikron is pretty good. It's weight and super flexy hose is awesome. It breathes good (though not as good as a legend, it breaks at close to the same pressure as the legend, but has a little more tendency to free flow when turned up real high on the adjustment knob). As far as a travel reg, i would rate it up there as one of the best. If you could pair it with an integrated octo/inflator (Aqualung air source 2 is my favorite) and a hoseless computer, and you have one of the most lightweight and portable rigs for travel on the market. Hope this helps

I finally dove my new Mikron and I like it. Breathes nice, bone dry if I'm upside down or whatever position which is important to me. A bit more bubbles past the face and ears than my old SP reg, and noisier because of that. I somewhat expected that with the small size but not too bad and I was used to it after the first dive. I may cut the bridge part out of the Comfobite mouthpiece, sort of bothers the roof of my mouth. The flexible hose reduces pulling. Weight/size/flexible hose make it nicer in the luggage. And even though the 2nd stage weight may not matter UW, having something smaller seemed vaguely nice.

I've been diving the Mikron for about a year now and I love it. The bubbles are a little close to my face and ears but you get used to it. I would recommend it, especially for travelling as it is very lightweight. I just purchased the Mk17/A700 and yet to use it but I've been reading pretty great reviews. Good luck with your Mikron, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

All reports I've ever read on the Mikron have been positive. The only downside I've ever read of is bubble inteference. I owned a Micra ADJ some years back basically an older version of the Mikron. I really liked it, I kind of got used to the bubbles after a while. FWIW Im pretty sure there is a review on ScubaDiving magazine website. Good luck.

I found the article. Link below:

My wife & I have had Micron’s for just under a year, 45 +/- dives (2 international trips).
They work great, do what they were designed to do and do it well. Best features: flexible hose and small 2nd stage size. No problems at all. Having said that, they are our 1st regulator purchase and our basis for comparison is rentals. Purchase tip: the first version of the Micron had only 1 HP port. The next version has two. There may be a few of the 1st versions still in distribution channels so check closely.

Looks like Sport Diver reviewed the Micron in 2008 and I believe Diver magazine out of the UK also reviewed it more recently. The latter is easy to find on line. Another one to consider is the Aeris ION LT, now with a maxflex hose and smaller first stage. Both manufactures web site show a breathing loop. ION is pretty impressive.
