By Titan I assume you mean the lower end model from the AL line. As opposed to the Titan LX and LX Supreme which became the Core and Core Supreme. The latter is a superb regulator, balanced second stage and rated superior WOB equal to the Legend. I hate to say it but it is my preferred regulator. Simple, dependable and superior WOB. The former, the simple Titan is a downstream second stage. The shop that did the work on them needs to revisit the one that is not breathing well for you as there is no reason the simple little Titan is not a completely adequate regulator.

Okay, the Legend, I bought my wife a Legend sometime back. Again, it is a superb regulator, it is essentially a Core (Titan LX) second stage with an adjustment knob and a depth compensating first which is sort of chunky (heavy). She loves it.

I just bought a new Core Supreme DIN for back up duty with the yoke converter and it may become my main regulator. I like them. Maybe some day when I grow up I can afford ScubaPro and Atomic. But AL regulators are top notch, including your little Titans, not exactly some off brand. Parts and service worldwide and a long and storied history.

I agree with others that an upgrade is a "BS". Look for another LDS and have a AL tech service it the way you want it.

I was just going to add to save you money if you do upgrade. You do not need a Legend, that store is just trying to maximize their profit on you. One of the best dollar to performance values in the market is the AL Core line up. The Supreme is the cold water version. Again, dollar for performance ratio, it cannot be beat, equalled sure, beat, yeah, that is a hard one, good luck with that. Why AL, if you want to stay with them, serviceability down the road, same with SP and Mares and Apeks and Atomic. Mainline brands with plenty of support and I am not dismissing Hog or their ilk either, especially if you might desire to do your own service down the road perhaps. All modern mid and top line models are going to have a superior WOB and after that you are splitting hairs. You just need to look at features, value, local support and so on. If you might go all techie diver on us, certain models are preferred by such divers.

Thanks for all the input.
The story has a happy ending. I went to a different LDS today, I have never been there before as they are not close to the house however I went there as they are an AL dealer.

I explained what happened.
They described the Titan as a workhorse. They opened the reg. and showed me how it had been rebuilt incorrectly.
They fixed it, tested it, had me check it (it was PERFECT), water tested it, and cleaned it.
I asked what I owed them they said no charge.
Great bunch of guys. I have a new dive shop, it will be worth the drive.
If I buy anything it will be through these guys.

If your in NC check them out.

That’s awesome. I’m lucky that there are a ton of dive shops near me. There are several shops much closer to me than my preferred shop, but I go to them for reasons like you just found.

Sounds like the first shop lost out on future sales and service opportunities from you.

I want to support the local LDS and have no problem paying a little more to do so, but the old shop won't get a nickel out of me.
No problem driving farther deal with the right folks.

awesome !!

Totally your call, but if your LDS has served you well in the past, and if you feel any loyalty to them at all, it might be worth it to tell the owner that his tech doesn't know what they are doing and his staff are trying to scam people. He may already know (or be in on it) but he might also be unaware of what his staff is doing (which indicates a whole other set of problems).

The owner is the one who told me Titans are junk and I need a Legend.
So not his staff who are scamming ... its the owner himself.

I took my son's Titan to the new shop yesterday and asked him to check it out as mine was rebuilt incorrectly.
They looked at it, same deal, backwards or upside down or whatever and my son's octo had a leak, they gave me the same deal, no charge.

Signed up for a class while I was there.
Trustworthy gentlemen

Find someone else to service your regulators. Pushing an upgrade is a bs reply.

Is it working worse than when new?
What does not flowing well mean?
Are they both having issues?

A good shop can hook it to a magnahelic guage that precisely measures flow rate and sensitivity against the spec. Go to that shop.

Not flowing well meaning I had to suck hard on the reg to get air.
