Land locked in SIN CITY
I am looking to take a Aquacat cruise next year in the Bahamas with my wife a curious to be a diver , non-diver...... Anyone here got any thought pro or con.... brutal honesty

Brutal honesty? Opinionated, too.

Non diving wife on a liveaboard? Get the divorce papers ready. The only ship that I would take a non-diving spouse aboard would have NCL painted on the stacks.

Either that, or get her certified now. (just before your trip) That would be the logical thing, land locked as you say you are- entirely possible. At least get her through everything other than the open water and get an OW Referral wired-in on the Aqua Cat.

If you do not, she will die of boredom and more importantly- she will be missing one of the biggest things that you can share long years into your marriage. Go- make her your new best dive buddy.

I disagree. It will depend on the temperament of your wife. If she would be happy just snorkeling and hanging out reading a book, she'd probably have a good time. If is a type A personality, you should probably think again. Also, you don't necessarily have to make every dive. Aquacat offers non-diving things to do, so your wife can either do them herself or you can skip a dive and go with her.

Also, she wouldn't have to be completely certified be you go. It would be an excellent opportunity for her to complete a referral, that is where she would do the classwork and pool dives at home and do the open water dives while on the trip.

I agree with Doc. I have been on the Aquacat a number of times, and each time there was the odd non-diver (male and female). On all occasions, while they did enjoy the trip, being able to chill out, watch a DVD, read a book, sunbathe, etc, as well as get on the Sea Dog (the launch they tow behind) to go check out the Exuma marine park HQ, feed the iguanas on Allan's Key, etc, they were a little fed up by the end of the week, as the divers were all disappearing for five hours in a day, on the offered five dives a day.

Now you don't have to do all the dives, so you could spend more time together, but you want to go on the liveaboard to dive. The diving is some of the easiest you can find, so it would be ideal for her to do her referral, and the Aquacat is simple to get on and off when entering/exiting the water.

Persuade her to do a referral and you will both have a great time.

The continual dive talk through all the meals and surface intervals (Did you see that (fish, turtle, shark) etc.) will probably cause her to want to jump overboard by the end of the week if she's not diving.

It did for me and I'm a diver...

brutal honesty...

I have done the Aquacat several times. The Aquacat is the only liveaboard I know of that has activities for non divers. We have always had one or more non-divers. Their launch is available to take the non divers snorkeling or to the beach at anytime. If she is thinking about diving, they offer resort courses.
