I am about to load up on gear, and my LDS told me about the gear up and go program. Looking at either Red Sail Sports in Grand Cayman or Stuart Cove in the Bahamas.

Has anyone out there done the Gear Up and Go plan?
Any gotchas or obscure loopholes?
Any feedback on the resorts or destinations?

Have about 30 dives, just looking for some good vis and interesting sites.

Cheers

You've already done a lot of research.

You tell us, what do you get and for how much? An ad that states % off means very little.

Tell us what you have figured out, put "the apples" out for side-by-side comparison.... otherwise you're about to get a lot of oranges!

I will be running the numbers next week. I called the reservation lines for the resorts yesterday and both are closed until Monday. I plan on getting the total costs including the discounts, I will publish the details.

It is more or less a no lose proposition for me in a sense, as I plan on buying the gear and going to the Bahamas or Grand Caymans this winter anyway. It seems like a good thing, and it would be great if the savings are what they seem to be. It is new enough that the shop has not had any customer feedback.

I guess what I am watching out for is:
1) Spending the same or more money than I would without this promotion

2) Ending up with poor accomodations or a dive operator that I may not have otherwise chosen

3) Jumping through so many hoops to meet deeply buried requirements that it sucks the fun right out of the trip

If I wind up being the first on ScubaBoard to go through the program, I'll be sure to post any lessons learned. I think of the old saying "A smart person learns from their mistakes, a really smart person learns from the mistakes of others".
