This past 4/1 the mods decided to allow certain controls to be turned of to help play a joke on the rest of us. (I am pointing directly at the
"Pssst...lets talk about them while they are not here" thread in Humor forum)
In a pm to me I was accusesed of personally attacking someone.

I fell for the joke and unintentionally caused someone else some pain.
For causing someone else pain I am truelly sorry.

In my pm to the person who clued me in, I asked if anyone else was asked to apologize for undue pain caused by this joke?

Does anyone else think this joke went to far? or had the potential to go too far?
Is anyone else feel any undue pain because of this "joke" thread?

I was one who fell hard for the prank and afterwards I laughed all day about it.

NetDoc:
Was it infantile? Refreshingly so. :D
And that says it all right there! I think it's great that so many of us can laugh at ourselves, and take one day out of the year to just lighten up a bit and not take ourselves so seriously. I've only been diving for about a year, but the divers I have met, both at home and at dive sites around the world, have been some of the most wonderful, genuine, fun and accepting people I've ever met. (Of course I've also met a few morons, but that's life!) :D

Thanks, Mods, for the entertainment. :10:

ScubaTexan:
Are you sure you're not American?? :D
:rofl3:

Careful, some might find that offensive.

Maybe because I'm a computer programmer but I saw through the trick immediately. I found it boring and childish. April 1st is full of Internet pranks that are neither funny nor clever - especially after the millionth person forwards me the joke or post Thats the problem with the internet and April Fools Day too many people involved and just gets old quick. How many ^you^ threads were started yesterday? 1-2 is funny. 10-20 is just annoying. 20+ is just sad.

I like a good joke as much as the next guy. I find it really stupid to dedicate a day to it , I ignore everything I hear April 1st. Where is the joke? Slashdot is like this too, nearly every article is a joke - so its not watch out for the joke - its all these are jokes - boring. Same thing with google every April Fools Day they have a big news release - does anyone fall for these any more?

i caught on pretty quick but for me it didnt go too far........ just too long!!!

36hrs was a hell of a long time so i will claim myself as queen of the south pacific and across the trench to NZ and say we waive the time line dominance so that next year april fool jokes last 6hrs only.... or at most from sun up in new york to noon in hawaii

So don't participate. Nobody was forcing you to read the joke threads (which were pretty obvious...especially to someone with your powers of observation.) Why spoil it for the rest of us by declaring it "childish and boring"? Some of us enjoy a good laugh...especially if it lasts all day. You might find being "childish" to be boring and useless...but some of us enjoyed setting aside our serious side for a little while and taking some time to laugh. Then again, some people just don't like laughing. That's a shame for them. Me, I enjoy a good belly-laugh...as well as giggling, chortling, cackling, guffawing, and all the other permutations of humorous expression.

For me the joke didn't feel like it went on too long, but the complaining about it certainly has (which is as sure a sign of success as anything IMO).

By my unofficial tally the hahas still have it over the boo-hoos.

So ...now we need to spend another 36 hours trying to convince everyone it was funny ??

I personally don't take myself that seriously, but I take WHAT I do very seriously. Very capable of laughing at myself and do quite often.

Enough is enough. It was funny, I guess.
