I just bought myself a second hand Apex TX50 full reg setup. The Octo is also an Apex. The gauges are TUSA.

I looked the second stage up on the Apex site, of course they wax lyrical about how wonderful this second stage is, it is after all the best on the market.

What I would like is some unbiased opinions on this second stage. Who has used it, who has liked it, who has not and why.

I love it personally, I have not dived with it yet but I have taken it into my pool and it is great! It breaths really well, is comfortable to use, the large chin guard makes it stable and it sits snug and secure in my mouth. It has a swivel on the fist stage that makes the whole set up really ergonomic.

So, whats the scoop on this reg?
Thanks guys.

I have used TX50s for my entire diving life. They are rock solid. I can't compare them to anything else though as I have only dived Apeks since my first days with rentals.

BTW...you have a DST 1st stage if it has the swivel.

(who is Dannydon......do you mean DandyDon?)

Cool, thanks for the answer, I am glad I managed to get quality at such a reasonable price. So far I am really happy. I am diving in some heavy conditions this weekend and I think I will enjoy the reg.

It probably was DandyDon, I am useless without glasses!

If you bought it second hand though I would recommend getting it serviced or at least checked by a proper technician before you seriously dive it. That's just sensible to do! ;) It IS life support equipment after all - and you only have one life......:eyebrow:

It is being serviced as we speak. I took it to an independant dive store (not the people I bought it from) and the guy gave it a look over and said on first sight it is in mint condition, it is about a year old. He took it in and is giving it a service anyway.

That's great. Then I'd have to say you have one of the best regs ever made. The reason I bought it originally was that it was the recommendation of my Tech instructor in 1999. They still have the same reputation today.

Agree'd they seem to be the prefered with many technicall divers. Dependable and reliablility!

I dive a ATX200 1st and 2nd with TX50 as my octo on my single tank, and a pair of DS4 1st with TX50 seconds.

I have an Apeks DST with a TX40 and I love it except for one thing...

The exhaust deflector thing is rather wide and tall and my bottom lip gets stuck between the mouthpiece and the exhaust deflector. I think I might just need to get another mouthpiece.

Great Regulator, the TX40 doesn't have the cracking adjustment like the TX50 or my Scubapro G250 but I haven't really missed it either!

I dive with ATX-50 primary and TX-50 secondary.

I get cotton mouth bad with these regs.

I like metal regs better.

I love the Apeks mouth piece. Changed all my regs to the Comfo-Bite, or whatever it's called.
