Just read in Sport Diver about the new Apeks Status, Do we really need this first stage that lets us know if the reg needs service?, we already have the technology, its called a calendar. I know I might be stepping on the toes of a few Apeks fans but come on, lets put a computer in the first stage and charge a million bucks. I was also amazed to find out we actually needed a readout to tell me if the reg is actually working. I suppose if I put the reg on a tank, pressurize it and try to breath from it, If I can't, I need the Status to tell me its not working right? Now calm down Eric, take my meds, but seriously, for years we set up our equipment and took a test breath through it right, In my case my wife then checks my set-up. If its not breathing right I'll know there is a problem, If I use the Apeks Status and a problem occures at depth, Say a major malfunction I would simply find my Buddy and prepare to safely ascend, I would'nt even be able to see a read-out on my first stage, so if anyone has knowlege on why this innovation might be good i'm listening.
