I want to buy a set of open ended wrenches for my "emergency" dive kit. Is it metric or imperial? Does anyone know the size of the wrenches needed for the Apeks hose connections? Since I do not have a set of calipers to measure them and short of taking the Regulator to Sears to test the fit, I need to ask for advice on here. :)

I have the ATX50/ATX40 with DST.

** I went to Sears and fitted the wrenches. Here are the actual sizes:
1/2" LP (16mm)
3/8" LP (14mm)
3/8" HP (14mm)
Hex Size (5mm)

***NOTE: I tried metric and imperial, imperial was too loose a fit, but metric was closer, but still not a "tight" fit.

Thanks in advance,

Thomas

Thomas,

I took my reg into the local hardware store when I bought my wrenches (I have a TX-100)....this way at least I knew I wouldn't be making multiple trips ;-)

One thing to remember -- you need to check the end that goes into the first stage as well as the end that goes into the second stage. You also need to check the fitting on the second stage, since it is possible you will need 2 wrenches (one on the hose and one on the second stage) to loosen the second stage (if you will be switching second stages/hoses for any reason). Some DIR folks advocate tightening second stages "finger tight".....regardless, you may need 2 wrenches to get the second stage off the first time you do it.

I honestly can't remember whether the fittings at each end of the hoses are the same or different -- I also have switched out my Apeks hoses for others that are non-standard lengths, so the comments I am offering may not apply to you.

I do remember this much -- all the wrenches I bought were imperial.

Bottom line -- the easiest solution is to bring your reg with you to Sears.

Wierd. I just measured mine at the weekend for the same thing. I can't remember the sizes right now but I think it was:

9/16, 19/32 and 5/8

I'll check when I get home

You will also need a 6mm Hex key to take out port plugs and I think the 6mm also is needed to loosen the DIN connector from the reg body. If you do ever loosen either the yoke or the DIN connector be sure to keep the end that mates to the main reg body pointed upwards so the o-ring does not pop off (learned this from my favorite DS wrench). It is a weird size and can be hard to find outside of buying an Apeks rebuild kit. Personally I do not bother with multiple box wrenches but carry a trusty 8" adjustable crescent wrench in my kit.

large_diver & nickjb: Well, it looks like it's imperial. I have no real problem taking the reg to the store to be sure. The tool section is right near the entrance anyway. I'll probably go there tonight.

gentlegiant: I have metric and imperial hex kits from my target shooting days. I'll pull them out and add them to my kit.

Thanks!

I use a 6" adjustable crescent. Small, fits all of the hoses. Buy a good quality one and it won't slip. It's imperial and metric, too. :)
