I used to have a MK25/S600 but now I use the ATX50, ATX100 and ATX200 depending on what kind of diving I am doing.

The reason I switched from SP is the free flow problems I was having even in warm waters and then since I do a lot of cold water diving, the SP regs are not suitable since they are prone to freezing and have been linked with a lot of cold water problems.

However the SP regs especially the S600 breathe incredibly. If I remember correctly they hold the highest flow rate from any other reg (one reason why they are also prone to free flow).

So if you are only diving in warm or temperate waters then you will be happy with the SP regs, but from my personal view and the views of all of my friends and colleagues we love the Apeks regs enormously. I would never switch to another reg. The only issue with the ATX50 is the model that has the swiveling head. Over time the o-ring inside can bulge or cause problems, but after a lot of years that has not happened to me yet, but it has to a few of my friends. That is why I went with the ATX100s for my stage and deco tanks and the ATX200 on my doubles.

I have dove with my scubapro mk16-550 in water that was less than 38deg. F. with no problems with freezing. Well i frooze but my regs didn't

I guess if there is any diving in colder waters, the Apeks would defenitely be my choice. They have a well proven track record for that type of diving. Otherwise the Scubapro should be fine as well. Also check the service/support availability in your area for the two brands of regulators you are looking at. That is also an important factor.

Sincerely

Anders

I know this thread is old, but maybe someone can help me. I thought that you could get the ATX50 w/ the nonswivel DS4 1st stage. Is this incorrect?

It just costs quite a bit more. I really hate the idea of paying more for the DS4/ATX50/ATX40 than for the DST/ATX50/ATX40 considering the DS4 is actually a few dollars cheaper than the DST when bought seperatly.

I wish Apeks would realize that the DS4/ATX50 is such a popular combination.
