I am currently in the market for a new primary regulator first and second stage.

The regulator will have to keep up with deep cold dives, Ice diving, mainly freshwater diving, but some saltwater diving and anything else I can throw at it.

The local dive shop sells Aqua Lung, but I know that apeks are regarded as the ultimate cold water regulators.

I am looking at the apeks atx100, atx 200 and the aqua lung legend series. I was also wondering about the apeks black pearl regulator. How does it compare to the rest?

If your LDS sells Aqualung they also handle Apeks, whether they stock them or not. Apeks is now exclusively distributed in the US by Aqualung, with basicaly the same warranty and service requirements.

As far as comparisons, I believe that the Aqualung Legends are essentially the same reg as an Apeks ATX100 so other than some external cosmetic differences there shouldn't be any significant performance differences. An Apeks Black Pearl is a commemorative edition of an ATX200. Basically a $100 paint job, no diff. in specs.

They are both good brands and the regs you are looking at at their best. You can't go wrong with either brand.

Quick! Make you ecision before the heated debate starts over which is the better breather, the Legend LX Supreme or the ATX200.

Basically (or at least up here) the Legend is a little more expensive and does not offer any significant performance advantage over the ATX200 so few people use it. Even then, The main advantages of the 200 or 100 over the 50 or DS4 are minimal in performance, however they do offer better hose configuration thanks to angled ports and dual HP ports. How does the pricing compare at your LDS

Get a poseidon instead, peace :eyebrow: :eyebrow:

I am still diving my old Dacor extreme which is still doing quite well. My wife dives the ATX50 and it breaths very nice. Feels the same deep or shallow. My next reg will be the ATX200.. Awesome piece..

I have been diving two Aqualung LX Supremes for just over a year now. Had my first service done on them about two months ago.

I have had them down to about 220 and they breathe with no effort on inhale or exhale. As of the time I bought them, they were the easiest breathers on the market. It is possible that there has been a change during the last year but you will not go wrong with these regulators.

Apeks are also good performers. About the only less than favorable thing I have heard about them was that they tend to cause the flow of bubbles to go in your face when you exhale with them.

Either regulator is a good choice but I would still go with the LX Supreme over the Apeks.

I own both an ATX200 and Legend LX. I think their breathing characteristics are about the same. I'd go with the one you can get the best price on
