Apeks MTX-RC Regulator Review
After years of using rental scraps, it was about time for a new regulator. I treated myself to the new Apeks and have had it out for a handful of trips. Short story, I’m a big fan of this reg. Smooth operation and solid design. I also have a suspicion that this reg is reducing my air consumption due to the precision of delivery compared to the regs I was previously using. This might be total BS. It’s a shame the MTX-R (non-ice model) does not have second stage adjustments (cracking pressure and Venturi) or I would have gone for that model, as I am not a big fan of a turret (rotating) first stage.

Do you like Turret on the first stage, and if so, why?

Congrats on the new regs and nice review video. The MTX series is way overkill for me since I'm never diving in freezing water plus I could never justify spending that much for regs when the xtx50's and DST's perform perfect for what I need them for. But I do think they are a nice looking set of regs.

To answer your questions.
I think most people that are buying turret style regs are not using them for single tank diving. I think most are using them for sidemount, twinsets, and stage regs. having the turret style reg is so much nicer for hose routing. I would actually never buy a first stage that does not swivel (with the exceptions of first stages for CCR tanks) but my style of diving is not single tank diving. And when I do the occasional single tank dive I dive with long hose short hose and the turret does not bother me.
For you second question I don't know I think this is a judgment thing some will have a strong opinion it can other will say no. Me personally I do not really find that a second stage can make that much of a difference on my SAC however I have only used Apeks, SP, and Halcyon second stages and all are very good quality regs so maybe for me I can not tell.

I have all variants of the regulator. Venturi is easy to add to one that does not have it. There is no mtx-r without a turret. I have currently thr Aqualung MTX regulator which is designated for military use, it has no diver controls to keep it simple and reliable. Also the RC forgoes some heat exchanger area in order to fit thr cracking pressure knob.
