Hello all, went for a dive today was all setup and when I went to put on my wing all of a sudden there was a massive leak from my first stage. I was told and I agree now that it’s probably the o-ring inside the first stage that is damaged/loose. I got home and when I tried to unscrew the body of the first stage from the tank connection with an Allen key I couldn’t because it was extremely tight. Is this unusual for a first stage that has less than 10 dives. Any response or knowledge is much appreciated as I am new to repairing/inspecting gear (it’s something I want to know more about). All the best

What makes you think the leak is coming from the internal o-ring on the DIN-bolt? Are you sure it's not the external o-ring that seals against the valve (which fails/is unseated much more often and can easily be of the wrong dimension)?

If you unscrew the reg from the valve by using the reg body rather than the handwheel, you could possibly unscrew the DIN-bolt enough to create a leak, but since it seems to be tightened properly that seems less likely.

The DIN-bolt is torqued to a high spec, so they can be quite hard to unscrew. I wouldn't recommend opening the reg unless you know a little bit about what you are doing, though. You could easily damage internal components if you don't know how to remove o-rings safely, and unless you know how to test the regs after reassembly, you could be diving an unsafe reg. Better to either get some training (like rsinglers online seminars) or to hand it in to a reg tech.

Thanks for the reply. I called a friend and he came to the same conclusion as you. The only reason I thought it was the internal o-ring was because the people on the dive site said that seemed like where the leak was from. Hoping to bring the regs to the shop on Tuesday.
