I just purchased an Apeks ATX200 from my LDS that was closing out on all Aqualung product line. I read on and earlier thread that Apeks was having problems with their first stage's paint chipping or peeling. The worker told me that they've had this reg for over a year, so I am assuming that this model was manufactured prior to the new and improved version. Does it peel under normal usage or does it start after you bang it around a little? Did the manufacturer or dealer help you remedy the problem? The LDS here assured me that they will honor the warranty card as far as service, but he mentioned that they no longer have ties with Aqualung. Thanks in advance for any replys.

ive had mine for almost 50 dives and theres no problems with the paint, infact cept for a minor seating issue no problems at all.

I have two of the black ATX-200's. The paint doesnt really peel as much as it wears off after a while. Mine dont look bad, but there are some areas where the finish has worn off, and some little scratches. I still think they look cool, and I am planning on keeping them. The newer ones with the all chrome finish are cool, but I still like my black ones...

actually, the finish is black chrome. if any of you are familiar with the chroming process, this is what is left over when you are done chrome plating items. AL decided to try to use this as a coating for the ATX200, but shortly found that it just didn't wear well at all. if you want to see a nice finish, check out the APEKS Black Pearl, the 30th anniversary model ATX200.
