I know I want an Apeks ATX-50 for my 2nd stage backup, but I can't decide on my main regulator. I've narrowed my research down to two regulators my LDS carries: Apeks ATX-200 and AquaLung Legend LX (I don't plan to buy online). I've searched this board and probably read all comments regarding the two regulators. After talking to some experienced divers, it appears it all comes down to personal preference, almost like comparing two luxury cars side by side. Majority of the reviews I've read rated the Legend LX higher than the ATX-200, but I hear more talk about the ATX-200, probably because Apeks quality has been proven over the years. The only negative things I've read between the two is that the ATX-200 tends to be wet when inverted and comments about bubble dispersion in the face.

Setting price aside, I was wondering if I can get some feedback from divers who have used and experienced both regulators. What are the pro's and con's between the two?

Dude, there are ALOT of discussions on these exact too regs right here at SB. DO a search and you should find them...

I think the Apeks ATX_200 vs. AQ legend LX thread has been beaten to DEATH, oVER AND OVER AND OVER again...

I still say go with the APeks...

But thats just me... I actually like how the Legend LX breathes, and it is very similar to the Apeks. I still say go with the Apeks...

THere arent many pros and cons that the two DONT share... Very similar. IT comes down to styling (the way the reg LOOKS), and bubble interference. SOme people say the bubbles are less with the Legend.. I dont seem to notice the difference...

Well, anyways, do a search, cause I said the exact same thing about two months ago to somebody else with the same conundrum...

Thanx for the input LUBOLD8431, but I HAVE searched ... most replies I read were from divers who wrote about trying one or the other, or replies associated with the older tx50, or replies recommending other manufacturers ... I only read a few messages who've tried both regulators, "dir tec diver" and "Diver0001" comes to mind ... it looks like my decision will be based on style .. thanx again.

I own and use both of the regs that You are considering. I have had both down D-E-E-P (180'-200' range) and really didin't notice any breathing differences. I don't really have a preference for one over the other. The Legend is an Aqualung (U.S. Divers) brand, and the Apeks is distributed by Aqualung dealers, so servicing questions shouldn't be an issue for You. Both are high quality regulators. Your dilemma is really one of "Do I buy the Lexus, or the Mercedes?" (Not to mention the Jaguar and the Infinity). Life is tough isn't it?:D

I ended buying the Apeks ATX-200 1st and 2nd stage, and ATX-50 on a necklace for backup ... a few divers at my LDS told me that the Apeks is easier to disassemble underwater if need be (as compared to the AQ Legend) ... the review in that link said the same ... thanks for the info.
