Hi,

I'd like to hook up with someone planning to dive this w-e, around Seattle ideally. I'm a relative newbie, so I'm not looking for something too technical, and I'll probably need some pointers on how to use a dry suit (which I need to find a place to rent from...)

Thanks,

Joss

Joss -- if you don't find a buddy here, you can also try http://www.northwestdiver.com/forums/index.php?

If you've never used a dry suit, most likely anyplace you go to rent one is going to make you do a dry suit orientation. It's quite useful; they're more task loading than wetsuits.

How many of these NW diving forums are there? I just found out & signed up on http://www.nwdiveclub.com/ ....

Is the dry suit orientation a dive?

There are a few of these boards . . . you seem to be finding them all.

The drysuit orientation is a dive, the instructors can probably chime in about exactly what it entails (I err, uh, didn't do a formal orientation, but was lucky enough to dive with an experienced instructor . . . worked out good too, I'm glad he was around to hang onto my fins when I corked from 20 feet a couple minutes into the dive).

It may be a good route to go, diving dry definitely adds to the task loading. For instance, my cork was due to me not being sure I had the air out of my suit when we ascended a bit, and fixating on the dump valve-completely forgot about the air in my wing. Yes, I'm an idiot. My drysuit didn't have any air in it. My wing had a fair amount by the time I hit the surface. Lesson learned.

My course, I did some pool time and then an open water dive. It's important to learn trouble shooting techniques, like if you get up side down and such...
