LOCALLY? I'm looking for some 2" webbing for a harness. I know I can order online but I am wondering if people have found local sources. Places I've tried: home depot, lowes, mom and pop hardware, safety product places, fastenal, fabric stores, hobby lobby, sporting good stores, oh yeah, and Lds's. Someone uses this stuff, who? I had 10 feet left from some I got from DSS but I made a weight belt for a buddy with 3 feet of it about two weeks ago; well, now I need about 10 continuous feet for another harness. Any ideas?

How about a place that does industrial strength sewing...tent, bag, sail manufacturer. Or a place that specializes in repairs to those sort of things.

It's not really about saving money but I hate to pay $10 or $15 shipping on such a small order. That's why I was looking for a local outlet. Howarde is right, the dive shops here don't even know why I'd want it; It's for a harness on a tank backpack I got from couv. I have a bunch of webbing that is lightweight (crotch strap) material but it doesn't make good harness webbing. But I'll figure it out.

And what's wrong with yellow??

I couldn't find any yellow, so orange will have to do :(

Peace,
Greg

Hmmmm..I'll know you if I see you at any of the local quarries! :rofl3:

And to the OP....heck, just buy something expensive so you can waive the shipping on the webbing!!!

If you get some webbing from piranha... grab a few stainless clips and other hardware, which you never have enough of... and then you get your money's worth on the shipping. I usually do an annual clip, snap, and other hardware order from piranha (Piranha Dive Mfg.). Their prices on stainless hardware are great.

You might also try the local marina's and boat shops, also if there is anyone near you that makes backpacks and outdoor gear, you might check them out in the Yellow Pages or Google local.

Good luck!

HowardE:
I would bet that many if not most dive shops that focus on recreational diving wouldn't even know why someone would want webbing, let alone have it.

This thread has been very enlightening. Before reading it, I couldn't imagine any LDS not stocking 2" webbing. But, it seems that is not uniformly the case. What are these 'stores' doing calling themselves a dive shop? Probably best to buy enough for your next 20 projects, absorb the cost of shipping (I understand your frustration there), and be done with it.

Harbor Freight has webbing like this, I think Northern tool does also.

what are the odds of finding another diver on scubaboard that lives in Hillsborough, NC?

My Harbor Freight didn't have it. Love that orange, fisheater. I have a climbing tree stand safety harness that has camo webbing on it that I'd love to find for a scuba harness. I'd sacrifice it but its not continuous; most I can get out of it is two weightbelts.
