LUBOLD8431 in other post referenced a quarry in VT. I know NH has a ton of 'em (e.g. Milford) but I figure most are private property off limits to divers. I've never dove in one.. Would be a place to dive when seas are pounding and just have to get wet.

Curious if anyone knows of some locations can dive in legally.

A lot of people dive the quarry up in VT (never been there myself). I understand it has an extensive cave system and is fairly deep (>130ffw).

There are several fresh water ponds full of mud down in MA if you ever feel like coming down.

Thanks soggy. I did see a thread on quarry in W. Rutland. Sounds great but I don't know if worth 2-3 hours to get there. I know there are tons of quarries here in NH. I just don't know where. Many are private and the owners don't want the liability of yahoos getting into accidents.

I know you're in Waltham. I work in Waltham. I drive by the Waltham Resevoir every AM on way to my healthclub and think every day how it must be like in there. Would be great to get a quick one in before work, at lunch or after work.

The quarry I was referring to is in W. Rutland. There is a small area of open water, and an extensive tunnel system, all overhead environment. There are permanent lines installed for those that are overhead trained, and it gets to almost 170 ffw in the deepest point. This is one of a bunch of quarries up there. This one is probably the only one that is diveable. Many of them have zero vis, or are impossible to get in and out of. I have gone there many times, and believe that it is worth the three hour drive. I was actually thinking about going up there soon...
The ice should be thawed by now.

The problem with quarries, as you mentioned, is many of them are on privately owned land. It is sometimes impossible to gain access to some quarries. The other thing is, you never really know whats down there.

You've convinced me! Next time you want to go, please PM me. Some of my funnest dives have been Springs dives in Fl. I love overhead cavern diving w/ dive throughs..

I know the vis and temps won't be like the springs but should be cool dive.

Unfortunately, diving is not allowed in the reservoirs. There is actually a thread that I started here about that if you look down a few pages.

Me thinks the "overhead" is cave, not swim through.
I've also been told (but do not know it to be true) that the cave openings are at a depth in excess of 100 feet.
