I know it had one last year but does anyone know if it does this year? We are going to dive it this Thursday.

Also anyone know what the temps in the Straits are running right now on the shallower stuff?

Thanks
JT

Hi Jeff - no one that I know of has been to the Uganda this year. The subfloats put on it last year should still be there. When we were in Manistique last week the water was really warm -- had 70 degrees down to 50 feet and at 110 it was 50 degrees. The Bradley was awesome.
Greg Such is in Mackinaw City right now, so you could e-mail him.

Dan Block was there recently, I believe that he left a line to the surface. It's too deep and too rarely visited for our Straits Preserve members to try to mark it each year. Maybe someday I'll get into doubles and give it a shot...

In the Straits we have been getting more current, and thus cooler bottom temps lately. It has been around 43 deg F at the bottom since early July. Thermocline depth has varied from 72 ft to 38 ft, with one weird day where I froze at 22 ft. The South Channel has been warmer, with temps of 59 at te St.Andrew, but I guess that means the thermocline had moved deeper again. Strangely, temps were 54-55 deg from top to bottom, even on the Eber Ward, from mid-May until the very end of June this year. In 2009 we had that sort of temp profile for most of September, but were cold the rest of the season.

Please consider making a donation to the Preserve if you like the convenience of the moorings, we've put a lot of effort into making them stronger and safer. Our fund-raising Treasure Hunt is this Sunday morning, Aug 15 in St. Ignace. We also sell T-shirts with our logo. You can see me (Dan) for shirts at the Straits Scuba dock (Star Line Main Ferry dock) in St.Ignace each weekend, or contact the St.Ignace Chamber of Commerce at 906-643-8717.

I big thanks to Doug from Scuba North for the right numbers on the Uganda. We dove it Thursday with the lake flat and the sun out it was an awesome dive and day. However all the published numbers are wrong. Both moorings are still there but no tag lines to the top, we did leave one on the bow. What an awesome wreck not sure why it does not get dove more??? We also did two long dives inside the Cedarville and would love plans to her if anyone has them.
