I was diving at Whitestar last week. I met a person in the town of Woodville who had told me about seeing SCUBA divers in Genoa Quarry.

I replied that I didn't know such a place existed (neither did the divers I was with). We'll long story short.... She explained that there were divers there and attractions to dive upon.

Since Ive done a lot of diving in the greater Toledo area I was wondering if it's worth going to check it out. It's onlyu about 15 minutes from Whitestar.

Can anyone give me some insight about diving in Genoa?

The only thing within fifteen minutes is Eagle Lake, north on 300. Used to be open to scuba, but alas, no more.

Due to a lack of information I decided to go check it out myself. Well I found Genoa Quarry in the heart of the town of Genoa (funny how that worked out).

They do allow SCUBA diving there. I managed to get in two dives in this little quarry. It's 35-40 ft deep and a little colder than other quarries. Maybe its spring fed?

Anyway, due to a rather severe algea bloom the visibility was found wanting. We were able to see 3 maybe 4 ft even at depth. There is supposed to be a couple of cars and an ice cream truck in the quarry.

Unfortunatly my dive partners and I only found one car. I believe it is an older model Citron. It was in pretty bad shape and in the low vis hard to identify as a car let alone the make. Maybe it was chucked over the side as opposed to being placed there on purpose for the benefit of the divers.

Bottom line my dive buddies and I agreed that if we ever decide to dive Genoa again we would do so in the early spring, before the onset of algea.

The one good thing I'll say is that it doesn't have and Zebra mussles.
