Wigged out my right inner ear diving Friday. Has happened before to various extents, and is starting to tee me off. I think it comes from tight Eustachian tubes giving me equalization issues, but who knows. Seems to happen very unpredictably.

Last time I went to an ENT (Ear Nose Throat) guy on the mainland, he really had no idea, could find nothing. Maybe someone on the island has a better grasp of the diving aspect of this.

Any recommendations or anecdotes are welcome.

Bob

Edit: reason I ask is having been to an ear guy that supposedly knew diving medicine, found he really was not up on it. A regular ENT before that was totally useless as he had little understanding of equalizing as done in diving.

I've emailed DAN for a referral, hopefully they will respond before too long, and not recommend someone on the mainland...............

please explain wigged out, I've never heard that one before

Ears fine during, after the dives. Couple hours after the dives, ear feels full, hearing goes to heck, touch of dizziness. Has happened to various degrees a few times in the last 6 years, alway the right ear. Pretty sure it is due to inner ear issues with equalizing. They never find anything in the times I had things checked. Just want to find an ENT that knows what he is doing and evaluate besides prescribe. ENT's are not all created equal it seems, some really do not know how to diagnose diving related ear problems.

Edit: Wigged out as in flipped out, weirded out, etc. Don't ask where it came from.........

Check this site out. List of diving Physicians on Oahu. Hope it helps.

Looks like who I have to call, DAN has no ENT referrals for Oahu, if you can believe that. This is the second time the vaunted DAN has had no answer when looking for local help. Their database may be overrated.........

"Thank you for your e-mail and membership support. The hyperbaric staff at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (808-587-3425) can provide a suitable referral. There are no dive ENT specialists that participate in our referral database in Oahu. You are also welcome to contact our office as we may be able to offer some information. If we can be any further assistance do not hesitate to contact DAN."

Edit: Got a few names from UH, will see one this afternoon.
