Found a guy from Ontario trading as "Gary's Underwater Technical Supply" selling backplates through eBay, here's a sample listing:

SS backplate

The price seems very competitive ($123 versus Halcyon's RRP of $188), and his aluminum backplates with harness are only $85!!! What's with that!

Point is I'm thinking of buying one - he also sells packages with Halcyon wings, so it all seems compatable. Anyone got one or seen one of his plates or harnesses?

for all intents-and-purposes, a backplate is a backplate is a
backplate. some might be more comfortable than others or
have a "nicer" finish but that's about it. If the price is right
and it is comfortable for YOU then buy it.

I believe Fred T's plates are cheaper than that and can be had in heavy SS as well as aluminum. I would e-mail him if I were you.

I bought an aluminum backplate for my OMS IQ pack. Gary was most cooperative and the plate was eally nice. You can (if you are good at ebay) get the alum one for $30 and the steel one for $70

He's the real thing. E-mail him and chat.

I acutally just dropped in here to say Hi to Eric L. Another Texan diver. Glad to have ya. Also a fellow owner of an OMS IQ

Welcome aboard Eric.
