I found someone selling a used YS-25 Auto and I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this particular strobe, if it's a decent strobe, are there any problems with it, and if $100 is a reasonable asking price for it. It appears to be in excellent shape.

GN 15 (low), use only batteries < 1000 mah (sub standard), 5 sec recycle time (very slow). This according to user manual. I would opt for a more powerful strobe that can use 2500-2700 mah batteries like NiMH & much faster recycle time. Depending on your strobe requirements, you may not be satisfied with its performance.

Agree with JccLink on this one. I sold a YS-50 for $55 and it has a lot more oomph! than a 25. Put the $100 towards a SnS 110a have a look on ebay international and you will find one for about $US450.

Still it does depend on your pocket and the camera you are using, the advantages of a 110a is sTTL, total control, a modelling light and you can use it with a DSLR if you don't have one already.

Thanks for the info. I can only afford around $250 right now. I'm using a Canon SX230HS which has been giving me some really great shots, but I definitely need a little more flash kick as it were.
