... but our Advanced Nitrox Instructor has that rule about Saturdays. That is cool. It gives us a day to practice between the first and second day of the diving in his classes.

By the way, my philosphy is much like Wendy's. I am probably at my most spiritual and reflective time when I dive so that IS my church.

Colossians 2:16 kinda sums it up for me. I'll be in the water...:D

For religious reasons--I dive on Sundays as often as possible. Diving is the most peaceful and contemplative thing that I do! And as has already been stated, what better way to celebrate than to be right in the thick of nature with God's creatures all around you.

I go cave diving just about every Sun. This thread is kind of funny because I just talked with my wife about me diving on Suns and missing church. I look at it that I am truly worshipping HIS creations because I am awe struck every time I enter the caves. These caves took thousands of years to develop and are truly God's work. I don't think there is a better way to show your appreciation. I'm sure this can be applied to the ocean's and other types of diving as well. Obviously, I'm not saying that its no big deal to miss church, but I do believe that this is more of an acceptable reason to miss church.

Not for religous reasons. I'm a heathan.
But usauly because my poor old beat up body needs it to rest from Saturdays dive. Now if I can get Monday to rest I'd dive Sunday too.

With all due respect....rjens didn't say he couldn't go on Sunday because he was at church....he said he couldn't dive because of religious reasons. Lots of folks restrict their activities on Sabbath day. The idea is that for one day, you should be focusing your ideas on the Lord and not just on work or your own enjoyment.

I don't know if this is why rjens chooses not to dive on Sundays.....but I do have friends who make choices such as this. And no, saying that SCUBA diving is enjoying what the good Lord made wouldn't make it all right for them <smile>.

Peace,
Cathie

Thanks Cathie & Walter, I couldn't have explained it better myself.

Perhaps you should compensate them with the income they will be missing so the sacrifice for conscience sake is yours and not theirs.
Actually, I was looking for others that didn't dive on Sunday that would like to take DIR-F. With 3+ million people in the Bay Area (and enough divers to support a dozen or so dive shops) I figured that there had to be 3 or 4 of that would welcome a DIRf class that didn't dive on Sunday. I am starting to feel like Lot ( ;) thank Bwerb for that one, he is the one that started quoting scripture...)

To all that suggested that diving is their form of worship (or variations thereon), I say fantastic and to each his or her own. Had I made a few different decisions earlier in my life I would probably be right there with you, but I am very content and at peace in my life exactly where I am. I just want to be able to take a few classes.

to the mods, sorry I said the word religion, this thread may have gone a different way if I had left that specific word out...

<snip> Just a point of order though, the Sabbath is actually saturday, that is when the Jews and 7th day adventists worship, however the new covenant/testament does away with that requirement and Jesus's example of having the Lord's supper on the 1st day of the week (sunday) is the reason most Christian groups meet on sundays (either by tradition or to partake in the memorial of His sacrifice (Lord's supper)).

Interesting.....I knew that for Jewish folks Saturday is Sabath....I was taught that the reason we celebrate on Sundays now, is that the first church gathered to celebrate the Lord's resurection....which was supposed to have happened on Sunday.

In my last post I was using the term Sabbath less literally....I was using it as the day set apart (which was the original definition I think)

I don't believe that I need to be in a church to worship the Lord, and that the choices I make the other six days tend to mean more than where I am Sunday morning.....but I do miss the assembling of the saints (my current lifestyle doesn't allow me to get to church on Sundays). Depending on the ship I'm assigned to, we do have get togethers with other believers for worship and bible study....but it's rarely on Sundays.

Despite what I believe about my relationship to the Lord and where my Sunday activities bring me.....I believe everyone gets to make the choice of how they worship, whomever they worship :)

Sorry for the tangent.....please proceed with your regularly scheduled thread about finding a DIR class that doesn't meet on Sundays :D

Peace,
Cathie
