I will be around the Waynesville area August 5th through 16th. Basically I'm looking for dive sites throughout the area. I have heard about diving some of the underwater towns flooded by the man-made lakes like Lake Fontana. I'm also interested in diving any of rivers as well.

I am a PADI instructor from Tampa, Florida with over 2000 dives. I'm comfortable in diving most anything. Last year I spent several days diving in the East Fork of the Pigeon River (Waynesville) shooting several hours of underwater video of the local trout population. It was some incredible video but the river is not very deep (1ft - 7ft). I'll do more of that again this year but I'm also looking for something different as well.

Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated including dive sites and local dive shops.

If you find anything happening in Western NC, I'll try to join you. I'm a newly-minted OWSI with ~160 dives and used to murky/low vis diving in NC. The only thing we have to offer in the Charlotte area is quarry diving, which, after Tampa, might be a little disappointing...

Safe ascents,
Grier
