I know it's a long shot but just wandering if anyone here has any info about Singapore
diving. Gone be there for 3 weeks Jan/Feb.

I have already read through a couple post on the asia board and found a couple
web sites (one looked awesome but they aren't running because of monsoon)
Just thought I would check here too.

Thanks

sam

Nope. Son-in-law has dove in Japan, but that's no help. Sorry, maybe somebody else can give some info.

"but they aren't running because of monsoon"

Do you mean they aren't running because of the Tsunami?

It's monsoon, these islands are on the east side of malaysia and the big waves were
on the other side.

Let me share my pain ...

$330 sing is about $200 us. for boat trip to/from, 2 nights in a shack,
food and 7 dives.
That's the breaks, from what I can tell I still might get a chance to go local.
The way I figure it is maybe their idea of bad diving will still beat a lake??

Thanks

Palau Aur is actually in Malaysia and not in Singapore. From Singapore, many divers would go to east side of west malaysia to dive eg. Tioman, Aur, Layang. As you may know it is now monsoon season around this region, most dive shops will only start in Feb to those places.

The southern islands of Singapore has diverse marine life as well but visibility there is usually around 5m. The cost is usually about SGD $60 ~ USD35 for a day dive.

Sambo, have a chat with the good folks at http://www.finsonline.com/vbulletin/. Post your question in the forums there and they're bound to give you some good tips on where to dive.

I've been to a couple of islands up the west coast of Malaysia and there is also EXCELLENT diving off of Sabah - - but this is a poor time to ask! I've asked around a couple of times in Singapore and was always put off. That, however, was by relatives that wanted to take me eating......On the other hand - "but visibility there is usually around 5m" - Sure beats the 5" visibility in Travis right now!

As the others have mentioned, most of the good dive spots Singaporeans go to are on the East Coast of Malaysia (eg the Perhentians, Pulau Redang, Pulau Tioman, Pulau Aur/Dayang, etc) which are generally closed now due to the monsoon. Diving normally starts Feb/March.

Visibility's generally good, at times up to 25-30m.

However, East Malaysia (i.e. Sabah/Sarawak) as well as most parts of Indonesia's divable now as they are not affected by the monsoon/tsunami. Most would be familiar with Sipadan, Mabul/Kapalai and perhaps less so, Lankayan. It's not really very far from Singapore...
