me and a buddy were planning on diving cape ann tomorrow reglardless of weather. only one way to find out conditions and visibility for sure. we are both rookie divers and i was wondering if there was anybody diving up there that we could maybe hook up with. thanks, derek

I'll be up there today and will let you know how it's looking.

Just keep an eye on the wind and look for a spot on the leeward side. If you're not sure... drive around. There's nothing in CA that's more than 15 minutes in one direction or another.

im looking forward to the report.

I need to dive, so I'll be on Cape Ann tomorrow. Want to meet at the Burger King on Rt. 128 at 10 am? I'll fly a dive-flag from my car.

I suspect the vis will be dreadful, and we'll be diving at low tide.. more rocks to scramble over and fall on. Still, I gotta get wet, and Folly Cove might be the ticket, assuming the wind is from the SW.

If you are rookie divers, that's fine with me, as these will be my rookie dives as a drysuit diver. A simple pair of dives to 40 feet or so sounds perfect. I'll be spending a lot of time practicing buoyancy, which is something all rookies should be doing. I'll also be happy to do a bunch of other drills with you if you want - it's about time I spent a dive focusing on technique.

Let me know what you think.

Yes, please do! If the vis is anything over 8 feet, I'll do it. It's a lot less entertaining when you can't see the ends of your fins.

ill see you at burger king at 10 am sharp. thanks man!!!

I'm sure you've already left...

We had 2 great dives at Old Garden Beach. Visibility was at least 15', maybe more. Water temp was 43 and lots of interesting critters.

Our second dive was after dark so we got a sneak preview of this year's crop of keepers as they were strolling around their new neighborhood. There's already a couple of monsters.

we dove back beach and vis was eaily 15 ft. it was great. cold point was 49 degrees. it was a good couple dives.

Good dives, thanks, guys. My computer showed 44 degrees - weird.
Seems like I need more weight - lead=warmer in drysuit land, it seems. Weighted as I was I was both squeezed and cold just to stay on the bottom.
Anyhow - good learning experience. Another time!

DHGPJ - I know exactly how you feel. I tried diving dry during the past 2 DUI Demo days. On the first time, I was way underweighted and did not enjoy the dive at all, since I never got to neutral buoyancy. The second go around, I didn't know that I was supposed to have some air in the damn thing and did the entire dive feeling colder than the dives I did earlier that morning in a wetsuit. Third time's the charm and I'll probably pick up a dry suit if everything goes right :)
