I prefer to dive Coz in shorts and a .5mm shirt, but have noticed that even though I am not feeling cold, I tend to use more gas when water is around 79 - 80 degrees.

I just ordered a 2 mm front zip wetsuit jacket, whcih I think would be perfect on top of my shirt.

Has anyone dove with a front zip jacket? Any problems?

I normally dive in surf shorts and a nylon tshirt in Cozumel but when temps get down to around 74-76 my arms get cold. So for Xmas my wife got me a Neosport front zip 3mm jacket that I wear over the nylon tshirt. I think we went 3mm for greater thickness to help ensure the zipper does not separate from the neoprene over time. 2mm might be ok too.
I used it in Coz in mid Feb this year and really like it. No problems at all. Easy on/easy off, dries quickly and has stretch to it. The only thing I am concerned with is it blowing off the boat as it's smaller than a wetsuit. I did have to add two pounds of lead which may go down as I use it more.

I dive in warm water with a long sleeve 3 mil neoprene surf jacket and trunks. I'm not a big fan of warming the wetsuit. :shakehead:

You should be ok, unless you look like this:
