We'll be on Catalina Island off of the Domincan Republic with a cruise in January. I'm having a hard time finding much information about it other than the fact that dive trips from the mainland go there. Has anyone been there? Just curious as to whether the snorkeling off the beach is any good? :dontknow:
Thanks!

I was there in September. I did 2 dives there, one wall dive to about 90 fsw and a shallow reef dive. They were both fairly good, reefs were brimming with life, much better than I expected.

The snorkeling off the beach is wonderful! There are sheer cliff walls that come down into the beach and continue about 200m out around the protected beach. It is shallow, maybe 8-12 feet and in some places much less. There is a spot in the wall were fresh water flows from the cliff and you can swim through the halocline... very neat.

I saw a ton of fish there, lots of Sgt. Majors, Fairy Basslets, Slippery Dicks, Parrot Fish, even a trumpet fish. There was also a lot of live coral and anemonies... It will be worth your time to head out there.

I did two dives there and they were the best on the Island IMO. You've picked the best place to go. As I recall, we anchored in about ~50' of water and the water was so clear it looked like you could reach out and touch the bottom.

Edit.....I did not snorkel personally but my family did and they seemed to love it and would likely echo what easdem has said above.
