Anyone attached a triple-l orion bladder to a different backplate?

Well the title says it all..... but I'll say it again. I just got done chatting with some tech support person on the triple-l website. They said the attach points for the orion bladder or OEM and can not be used with a seperate backplate and harness. Upon looking at the bladder, it looks almost identical to a wing with similar attach points. Curious if anyone has tried this?

Well, if it CAN be done, a FredT BP will be the one to try it out on.
FredT plates have got an assortment of holes & slots allowing for a very wide range of different wings & bladders to be used.

You can always grab the old hot knife & add a few more holes to the wing, I did that with a Northern Diver Xwing & it worked great.

Half the enjoyment from a good backplate and wing comes from having a good wing. I would stay away from the Triple L stuff and get something designed for a backplate/wing single tank configuration. By far and away, the two best on the market are the Halcyon and Oxycheq wings.

Halcyon offers a Pioneer and an Eclipse, in various sizes and configurations. Oxycheq offers their regular and 'signature' series. Both makers produce high quality, excellent wings. I've also heard good things about Dive-Rite's Venture wing, although I've never tried it personally.

By trying to jury-rig something to make it fit, your dive experience is going to be significantly curtailed. It's also the same thing for wings which claim to work for either singles or doubles - it will do neither well, but do both "OK." Just walk away.

... I've also heard good things about Dive-Rite's Venture wing, although I've never tried it personally.

I have the Venture Wing and its great... it doesn't have gusset cords but I've never needed them because I don't generally have a problem with air control.

Some people complain that the square shape affects their slipstream but, again - I have never had a problem with that. Besides - when in a near horizontal position my head is in front of the wing anyhow.

Other guys say it's too long and they don't like it hitting their rear-ends...frankly I haven't noticed but in a way I LIKE having a little longer of a wing because the air at the bottom can be used to balance out my weight belt (if I am too heavy).

BTW - I use an Abyss Backplate and even though the plates LOOK like they are competely compatible, and companies indicate that you can mix and match, some of the holes are in slightly different positions.
