Saw that Olympus was coming out with the sp-570 uz, has anyone heard if it will fit the PT-037 underwater housing like the sp-550 and 650?

Several photoreview websites previewed the camera, listing 24 scene modes including underwater. Olympus America website doesn't list any underwater modes. They only list 22 scene modes. They also don't show a housing for it, though they are often a little behind listing those. Interestingly, instead of the usual electric zoom lever on the shutter button, the SP-570 has lens rings for zoom and manual focus. They're trying to attract the SLR crowd, I think. That will make housing it kind of interesting. Might need a zoom and focus gear on the port like an SLR.

Just got done looking at this camera. wow... I am drooling. :jaws: (What ...your drool isn't bright red?) hehehe

Even went to Olympus's Japan and they confirm no underwater mode. :(

But, it will take a nice picture of a sleeping face. :sleeping_ (I love babelfish's translations, dont you?)

AUTO (full automatic), P (program automatic), A (it squeezes, priority automatic), S (shutter speed preferential automatic), M (manual mode), My (my mode: 4 patterns), the scene (the portrait, the scenery, the scenery & the person, sport, night scene, night scene & the person, indoor photographing and the candle *3, by your, the sleeping face *3, the evening sun, the launch fireworks and the multiplex exposure fireworks, cooking, the glass crossing over, the document and the auction *4, the shot & the selection 1*3, the shot & selection 2, the smile shot *5, the beach, the snow and shutter chance)

Now that's good news because I took my SP-550 UZ into the Olympus for salt water damage (sea kayaking to Flat Island January 30) on Friday, and have been contemplating upgrading to the SP-560UZ if it's unrepairable.

I don't use the camera underwater, so housings and UW scenes are not an issue.

Even went to Olympus's Japan and they confirm no underwater mode. :(

I cross-checked the Japanese site listings for the 550, 560, and 570. The first two fit into the same housing, but the 570 is obviously not for the underwater market.

Since the estimate for fixing my salt air damage 550 is $250, I've been checking street prices.

550 $290
560 $320
570 $600

I don't know what the insurance company will say, but my first choice would be upgrade to the 560—more pixels and new face focus option.

Although I lust after the 570's 20x lens, I'll have to wait till the price starts dropping. Besides, I'm trying to save up to replace my ancient (four years) underwater camera.

I got the 560 from 8th street photo for $269. I took it to Curacao and I love it. I only have one photo processed so far (and that is because a friend of mine did it.:rofl3:) so here it is. This was the UW wide angle 2 setting. I have some photos of frog fish that I used UW Macro with only my internal strobe. I have to admit that the UW settings on 560 are much, much better than the Oly 7070 I had. As far as I know, there will not be a housing for the 570. That's why I bought the 560.

Hi fairybasslet, what housing are you using? and loved that photo
I am looking at the 560 but want to get a good housing as well as extra strobe but your shot looks good with internal flash.

Thanks. I got the Olympus housing. The PT-037. I do have an external flash too, but I haven't tried it out yet. A friend of mine told me how to get wide angle shots with it so now I have something to strive for.:D
