Any tips on repairing an RK3?

not even an hour after I’d finished talking up the durability of the RK3’s, I find this gash in mine.

I’m considering using a soldering iron to fuse it back together. Anyone have a different idea?

Holding it open like that hit it with a pinpoint flame until it glistens then close it
