Hi there. Just wondering if anyone has done any recent night dives at La Jolla Shores, and if they can report on any squid sightings? Planning to dive there this coming Tuesday evening.

Thanks!

Welcome to the 'board!!!

So far the reports are kinda weak as far as the squid run goes...they are getting a late start this year.

Feel free to drop on down to your So.Cal. forum and join in the fun we have here:

Hope to see you in the water some day!

Last year the squid run was fantastic. So far this year we haven't seen squid in any great numbers. On a few night dives in the past month, we've encountered...a handful of lonely squid looking lost. For the past couple of weeks, there were several squid boats operating just west of the LJ Shores reserve at night. They were "fishing" with powerful lights and presumably did quite well. I kind of felt short-changed by the whole situation. Not only did the squid boats capture all of the fish so that divers couldn't enjoy seeing them...but they were also setting off those annoying "seal bombs" -- really loud blasts that could be felt underwater from quite a distance. I wonder how the seal protectors at Children's Pool would feel about the seal bombs.

Have fun...
