Divers counting Puget Sound octopuses this weekend for survey

Divers counting Puget Sound octopuses this weekend for survey

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Aquarium and Tacoma's Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium are enlisting scuba divers this weekend to count Pacific octopuses in Puget Sound.

The information will help determine the health of the octopus population.

Divers are asked to report the date, time and location of the octopus sighting.

The aquariums also ask the divers to report the comparative size of the octopus: tennis ball, cantaloupe, basketball or bigger.

cheers

I would be, except I'm diving Saturday morning to help a friend with a project, at a site where there are never any octopus (because of the 5' ling cod). And the rest of the weekend, I work.

It's a great thing, though -- An excuse to dive all weekend for a good cause! What spouse could turn you down when you say, "I can't clean the garage, I have to go count octopuses for the Seattle Aquarium"?
