I was just wondering if there is any rumor about the succesor of the Inon Z330 after all this time it has been discontinued.

Which strobe nowadays would you recommend as his replacement? I read about the Sea & Sea YS-D3 but it seems that it does not have such a good reputation, especially after what happened with the YS-D2.

There is an even newer S&S YS-D3 Duo out now. I don't know much about it, but hopefully they continue to improve upon earlier models.

Stil waiting for the updated Z330 or even just the Z330...pretty frustrating that Inon has no conact information, hasn't published anything or porvided any information on if/when they are releasing something, and none of their dealers are aware of any releases.

I saw a pair already on ebay... given how new they are that makes me wonder why

Yes, I heard they are working on a Z-400, but there is no date mention that this will come out.
I hope then that they improve the switches to turn it on as they are very week on the Z-330. I have 1 where the pilot light doesn't work anymore and it is not the light, only the switch. Also 1 other strobe the power almost don't get turn of anymore, even not if you turn the switch in the right position. then you have to wiggle it now a little bit.
Repairs of this means a complete new strobe inside (including the strobe itself, only the plastic outside will remain the same), and is very expensive.

The problem with Sea&sea is that these strobes also are not very trustable I have seen with friends. Backscatter has a nice strobe with guideline 40 too, and a videolight in 1, but it is very very heavy.

So I hope the Z-400 will come and is improved not only by more brightness, but also by better switches (the S-2000 never had problems with switches).

I must say it really blows my mind that Inon didn't have the next version ready before they pulled the Z330...and that it's taken them so so long to get the next one to market is really surprising.

You are right on about the 330 power switch. All of my failures on this strobe were related to this issue. I had one repaired due to this and another finally died because of the switch.

I still have two working 330s, but replaced them with the Backscatter HF-1s. They are better in every way except for weight, but you get a lot of valuable features in return.
