So I decided to check out some aerial images of Cozumel because of the hurricane wilma and ended up reading a blurb that said Cousteau says Cozumel is one the top 5 diving spots in the world.

This is ridiculous because I've read similar statements about so many places now...
certainly more than 5, and likely more than 10!

Now...is there any place that Cousteau hasn't said is in the top 10, top whatever? <smirk>

Does anyone have a link to the official list?

Me thinks...some marketers are taking Cousteau's name in vain.

Top 5 in the Caribbean maybe.

There was a list in Scubadiving around December of last year. By the readers so it might have some merit.

that's one of the top 3 reasons why people should not believe everything they read :05:

Especially on the Internet where any monkey with a computer can build a website - I'm one of those monkeys(webdeveloper)

I think he never mentioned Minnesota.

Rick Inman:
I think he never mentioned Minnesota.

Actually he did... although not as one of his top 5 dive sites. He said Lake Superior was one of the roughest bodies of water he'd ever been on.

:D Im pretty sure he recommended our local brownstone quarry as one of the top 10 dive sites to stay away from... (just kidding Frank,, im sure he would have loved it)

I would suspect the Chicago River was never mentioned by Couteau as a premier dive site. It was upgraded from toxic to poluted over ten years ago.

How about a raw sewage treatment tank?.....unless Cousteau went hunting for the elusive Mr. Hanky from South Park?

Lake Superior can not only be rough but ccccold! I spent some time on Isle Royal and I'm telling you, it's cold. The kind of cold that makes your limbs hurt. I was there 9 years ago, that year there was just one month that didn't have some ice on the rocks on the north side of the island (in the shadows) and that was the during the month that I was there....August. In May of that year, the ice was so thick in a popular bay (Rock Harbor) that the coast guard was landing their helicopter on the bay, it was about 3 ft. thick. Isle Royal is a great place to veiw wildlife, it has the least visited National Park. By boat it takes 4 and ahalf hours to get to from Copper Harbor (in Michigans Upper peninsula) There are wolves and alot of moose on the island as well as fox, otter and other small mammals as well as plenty of bird species. Hiking only, no cars, no roads, but small planes do land in the bays to bring people in and out.
