It's looking like me, my brother in law and father in law will be making the trip.

I was just wondering if any other Ontarians were going to head down.

Gilboa Quarry Scuba Diving

It's a quarry in Ohio that is trying for the "most divers submerged at one time" record in July. The current record is 976.

There's a banner ad that runs at the top of the Scubaboard page and if you do a search on Gilboa Quarry you'll find a bunch of threads with info.

Our local club is headed down from London. We have 30 rooms reserved at the Rodeway Inn in Findley. Where are you staying or are you camping out?
Ber Rabbit is thinking about maybe a Scubaboard get together that weekend.
See you there.

30 rooms?!? Wow. How many people do you have going?

We're just gonna camp. Hopefully someone does fly the Scubaboard flag. It'd be cool to put some faces to......well text.

We're hoping to get about 50 people from our club to go down.

Can you imagine the visibility with 1200 divers in the quarry at one time? I think he is trying for 1200 more or less. Some weekends the vis is shot after a couple of hours, especially once the students get done with it. Should be a blast anyways - it's not going to stop me from being there. I am a little worried about getting in and out of the place. I hear he plans to have parking in adjacent fields and trucking in small groups at a time. Sounds like it could be a long day. I hope he gets the logistics all ironed out well in advance. I'm not sure that those of us from out of town that want to dive a couple of days will be able to get in on the Friday and Saturday. I can only assume the 'record' is to be set on Sunday but I can't confirm this on the Gilboa website. Anyways...I expect a good SWODA turnout.

When I called the lady I spoke with said the record attempt will be on Saturday. She said the time wasn't set, but they're figuring three-ish.

Friday will be for registering and setting up dive locations and Sunday will be the day for draws and give-aways.

It'll be a madhouse. I wouldn't count on being able to "sneak" in any dives on Friday or Sunday. If the opportunity makes itself available it'll be gravy. But I'm sure not counting on it.

Thats allot of peaple pissing in there wet suit. NO THANKS, but you have a great time.

While it would be nice to meet many of the people from SB, I have little interest in driving that far only to get in the water with that many people. I prefer to have the water to myself (with buddy) rather than sharing a reasonably small quarry with 1200+ other divers. It is a great idea and I am sure it will be fun, but I will support the cause in my own way....by being underwater in Georgian Bay or Lake Ontario.
