I'm looking into purchasing my first regulator and found what appears to be a good deal on an Aqua Lung Micra ADJ regulator for $299 at my LDS. Does anyone have an opinion on this model, positive or negative? How about the Aqua Lung brand in general? The only real drawback I can find is the increased bubble interferance due to it's small size.

What is the first stage? Titan? Cousteau?

Mine are Cousteau's. My main reg has about 150 dives on it so far. I've had it serviced twice since I got it.

They are easy breathing regs, all the way down to the deepest dive I've done to date (153ft.) They occassionally free flow a bit if I take them out of my mouth at the surface. I don't find bubble interference to be a problem, but I guess I'm just accustomed to it.

One really nice thing about the regulator is that you hardly even notice that it's in your mouth. Once you get used to the aqua lung mouth piece the entire 2nd stage just floats there. I noticed a good deal of jaw fatigue using other types of regulators in pool sessions. It made me really appreciate my tiny 2nd stage.

I've been using Micras (older non ADJ ones) for about 6 years now. Bought them for the whole brood. We all like 'em a lot.
I've recently gotten some Legends and they're even sweeter.

I didn't notice which 1st stage it came with. I guess I should know that. Do you know the differences between the Titan and the Cousteau? Sounds like it's a nice second stage regardless of the 1st stage though.

I checked and it comes with a Cousteau first stage which makes it an older model I think. Any opinions on the Cousteau versus the Titan?

and I dive them both at once! :tease: Of course, I dive either doubles or an H valve, but I would never think about parting with mine. Sweetest breathing reg I have ever had. BTW, the year after they discontinued the Cousteau, the Rodale's review fell dramatically with it on the Titan. I keep an eye out for Cousteaus, and I picked up an environmentally sealed one at an LDS tent sale for @ $40.00. I want another like it now!

The Micra's have the same 1st stage as the SAE4. I dont know about the micra second stage But I can't tell any dif in breathing my SEA4 vs my Apeks ATX200. The only reason why I like my apeks better is because the second stage is smaller and lighter but since your talking about the Micra there even smaller when it comes to the second stage.

The 1st stage is solid as a rock and if need be I've seen people use them as a hammer.

Here is a link to AL so you can see what the first stage looks like

Here is a link with the Titan Micra so you can tell the dif in the two 1st stages and see what the second stage looks like

Hope this helps

Hey jray

My wife and I both dive the Micra Adj (with the Cousteau) As a matter of fact we got em from the same place your looking at yours (I think, if its the place on Burnet and 2222).

The price is good and the Cousteau 1st stage has the extra high pressure port, unlike the Titan. Good if ya want to eventually go with a remote air integrated computer and have a backup SPG, like I want to do once I get in a position to (ie my wife lets me).

I think its a good starter reg for your first rig. If I ever do move to a different primary im planning on making the micra my seconday just cause its so small, lite and a good breathing reg.

The only time Ive really noticed any bubble interfernce on the micra with with my mask off. And even then its only been annoying.

Good Luck

Get it. It's a great price for that combination. It's probably so cheap because it's last year's model and they want to sell the newer, sexier Aqualung product line.

Congratulations! You've found the sweet spot in the market - a perfectly fine product that has been discounted so the manufacturer can sell newer goods.

jray once bubbled...
