I was planning at being the New Years Day Dive(to observe, my 7mm wouldn't keep me warm enough). I was interested if any of the Looney Birds dive in Lanier with a BARE Nex-Gen drysuit and how you like it so far? I was interested in getting one of these suits and just wanted some feedback.

THANKS!

yep, I have one, have dove a couple of dozen times with it and have never had a leak (well, other then when I forgot to close the zipper...) used it with the provided undergarment in 48 degree water in Wisconsin and was plenty warm. The only thing I don't like about it is the rear entry, if it was a front entry it would be perfect.

I was at divers supply yesterday looking at drysuits, they had a nice heavy duty one there called a typhoon made in britan.it looked like a real nice suit and the price was right at 650 dollars.

I saw that one, but I tried on a DUI 450 and really liked it. I've heard some news from Divers Supply that DUI will be offering a finance program on their DUI suits starting in Jan. '08 I may go with the TLS 350 since it is cheaper and more comfortable compared to the heavier 450. The discount that Divers offers doesn't hurt either.

Mike on your BARE Nex-Gen is it really baggy or is there some shape to the suit. I know it's not a DUI,but I've heard some people say it's a garbage bag with seals.
THANKS!

Bare sizing charts are on their website. They offer a LOT of options, and if one purchases new from places like Dive Tank, they will even custom cut the legs if necessary before they add the boot of choice.

Anyone that says Bares are a garbage bag with seals either was diving one that does not fit, or has never dove one. Sounds like a DUI owner that needs to assure themselves that the $2000 they spent was really worth it on a DUI (which IMO is the most overpriced suit on the market). I have two buddies that dive the TLS350's, and they are nice, but expensive.

If I were to purchase a new Drysuit, I'd likely look for a deal on a Pinnacle Evolution 2. All the instructors at my LDS use these, and I have a couple buddies that do as well. Very nicely made, durable, and they come with things like pockets that DUI charges an arm and a leg for.

Another real nice suit are the BARE Tech line. I have two or three friends that own these suits as well, and they are very well made.

Personally, I have maybe 75 dives on my Nex-Gen which I paid $350 for in like new condition. I have not regretted that purchase, in fact, it's likely one of the best deals on gear that I use on every cold water dive. The only time I get a leak is if I stretch my neck out, and break the neck seal. This is generally because I don't get my neck seal right to begin with, and that happens on occasion to most Drysuit divers.

IMO the questions you should be asking are likely more along the lines of what suit is going to fit you best, if you want a Neo seal on the neck, or latex all around, if crushed NEO is your answer or laminate, or half and half, etc. If the answers to those questions require a DUI, or a more customized suit, than that may drive your purchase decision. However you pay a LOT for that DUI name, and IMO they are no better than a lot of other drysuits out there that cost much less. My 6'3", 280lbs+ buddy got a Pinnicle Evo with Underwear for under $1300 custom fit to his large size!

I think my buddies custom DUI TLS350 suits ran in the $2500 range after they added some bells and whistles.

It fits me...look at my website for some pictures.

oh oh! don't tell me you you are thinking about going dry? not after those "wuss" comments! :D that typhoon looked like a good suit to me. think hard about the undergarments too. I ended up with the merino lined pinnacle ones. afterwards I talked to susan at divers supply and she mentioned its the only undergarments she doesn't get cold at depth in. I got chilled on that that dive we did on the dairy the other week in those dui thinsulate undies.
