Hi

Just a goofy question... Does anybody have any ideas for a quick release mechanism for the Canon S1 strap. It's pain in the butt to take the strap off every time I need to put the camera in the housing. Just leaving the strap off permanently is not an option as I tend to have rather more thumbs than fingers!

I found some leader swivels in a fishing supply store. They come in a variety of "weights" with different sized eyelets you can permanently attach the strap to. The other end works a little like a very stiff safety pin. In between is a very smooth-working swivel so you can remove twists in the strap without detaching it.

The one I'm using is I think 100-lb test, so more than sturdy enough. Of course, they won't corrode from exposure to water or salt. They're painted a pretty cool black. And they cost about US$1 for a pair of them. I'd say they're durn near perfect.
