some people seem to think that lighting a candle also helps when they are cutting cheese.

If you get an oil stain on your cloths while cooking I found putting dishwashing liquid on it right way takes it out.

window cleaner kills ants quickly. It works great for kitchens where you don't want a bunch of poison on counters, pots etc. and it also smells a bunch better than raid

Question - is it true that if you spill red wine on a carpet - that spilling white wine ontop with counteract the red wine stain & you end up with a clean carpet? (an alcoholic, pub smelling carpet but a clean one!)
Well, it rather changes into rose wine which should be served chilled so drinking it form the carpet wouldn't be a good idea ;)
Sparkling water is the best but if you don't have in then use the salt.

By the way any idea how to remove rust spots from clothes? I have rust spots mostly from being on the boats of course.

Just remember with the salt you have to put a lot on. If the salt goes red from soaking up the wine then put more on until it doesn't (or at least the outside layer doesn't!)

Mania, there is a rust remover solution. But I doubt you can get it there. For right now the only thing I can think of is bleach it...works best on whites :D

Lisa, that much I know but unfortunately even bleach doesn't work...
These are my favourite white summer trousers and there are several small rust spots on them. You know how it is on the boat - rust is everywhere....and so it's also on my clothes.
And you are right - I never saw a rust remover solution at home. So is that the reason to go to Honolulu?

Well, any reason is a good reason to go there ;)

I'm always looking for any way to save housecleaning time and energy. Here's a tiny little one that makes my life a little easier:

I get a roll of plastic trash can liners for each trashcan. I put the roll in the bottom of the trashcan, under the liner that is being used. When the bag is full, take it out, and just take another liner off the roll.

I do this too! It does save time.
I also line a cookie sheet type pan with foil when putting chicken in the oven. It makes the clean up so much easier.

Having a lit candle adjacent to your cutting board prevents crying from cutting onions. (wearing swim goggles does, too! LOL!)

To keep cats out of my garden beds, I use a mulch of pine cones. The cones are easy to move out of the way when I want to plant or weed. The cones look a lot better than 1000's of shish-kabob skewers! :-)
