Have already inquired about this for Akumal where I'm told everything is shore entry and you have to take a boat out to a dive site.

Was wondering if the same holds true for Playa Del Carmen or Tulum? Any recommendations for mid-priced hotels (up to about $110) with dive piers in either of those 2 places?

Thanks in advance,

Hate to tell you this, but the topography of the reefs is about the same all the way from Tulum to Cancun. Shallow bays with a barrier reef then a drop off to 45/90 feet couple hundred meters offshore. I wish it was Bonaire type shore diving, but it just isn't there.

I've been to Tulum a few times and stay near the Cabanas Tulum/Ana y Jose area. There are no piers there. The waves there can get pretty big. I don't recall seeing any piers in Tulum but someone can correct me if I am wrong.
