Apologies for the cross-post, but I realized that a number of people who might have useful feedback might not actively follow the Computers/Gauges forum.

If anybody has insight on the questions in the linked thread, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I think its a waste of money. The Xeo is roughly 1000usd, for a lot of functionality (computing decompression, gas switching, etc) that GUE divers simply don't use. We plan our dives with DecoPlanner.

The Xen is a pretty good OLED unit if you're comfortable with replacing the batteries fairly regularly. I think LV worked out a lot of issues with the latest firmware updates, however.

Just so we're all on the same page - I generally agree. When diving with other GUE (or similarly) trained divers, I have no problem running with just a bottom timer. When diving with other differently trained divers, I personally have no problem with running just a bottom timer. I'm currently weighing the value of aligning myself more closely with the procedures the rest of such a team (that I know) is using when diving with them by running a computer alongside theirs. I haven't yet decided whether the cost/benefit ratio of doing such a thing is justified, especially given that I have a free computer between my ears, but I intentionally posted this outside of the DIR forum for obvious reasons. ;)

If their computer gives a different value than yours, what are you going to do? If the answer is ever "follow their computer" then why do you really need a computer at all? If you new it to execute the dive, then I would say the dive wasn't adequately planned with tables and/or a ratio method.

But if you wanna spend a thousand bucks, go nuts :)

Good points. I guess in that situation, I'd insist we follow, within reason, the most conservative computer generated profile. At that point, who cares whether my computer is on my wrist or in my brain. Sometimes obviousness eludes me momentarily, and I do get excited about the gadgets. :D

It's really hard to plan proper gas for "follow the most conservative computer" method.
