I am looking to upgrade from my current Aqualung Titan. The new regulator needs to be environmentally sealed, be a cold water reg, user adjustable second stage, and easily serviceable (meaning I don't have to hunt around to find a place to fix it). I was looking at the Oceanic Delta DX4. Anyone have any experience with this regulator?

I have the DX4/Delta 3 reg. I am very pleased with it so far though I haven't been in any high stress or very deep situations where I might overbreathe it. My only complaint is the bubble interference while I am in a vertical position. The bubbles run right in frony of my mask. The coldest water I've been in with it is 48 degrees.

jobowker,

I don't have any experience with Oceanic,But my Apeks Tx-50 with Tx-40 octo meets all of your requirments(if there is a dealer near you).I don't get any of the bubble interferance Kate mentioned, and I've been in some pretty heavy breathing situations(swimming into strong current) and could not over breath it.It breathes well in any position and is designed for :cold: water.

Hope this helps, Tavi:tree:

I'm open to anything. How much is the Apeks? Are there plenty of places around to get them serviced? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hi

I have owned Oceanic regs ever since I started diving and have never regretted the purchase. I use Deltas with the DX4 2nd stage with the enviromental kit. They are beautiful pieces of kit and what's more, all service parts are free for life. I have never had a problem with obtaining parts in all the places I've visited. I can thoroughly recommend Oceanic gear.

jobowker,

My first stage, second stage and octo cost about $500 from My local Dealer. My first stage is DIN so I can dive steelies at home , I have a yoke adapter so I can dive aluminum 80's when traveling. This can be gotten cheaper if your okay with buying online.check out http://shop.diveinn.com/pais.asp?...

Hope this helps,Tavi:tree:

OK, so what's the skinny on the Apeks line? Is the first stage on teh tx50, tx40, and tx20 the same? Is the only difference between the tx40 and the tx20 the heat exchanger?
How much do you usually pay to have it serviced? If I only have to pay labor to get the oceanic serviced, this is a big selling point. I paid $90 to have my aqualung serviced, and labor was less than half of that cost. Are there any New England people out there who have had either of these serviced in the area?

I would have said that my one regret in life is that by buying a poseidon regulator I have no need for an apeks regulator. However, my wife needs a regulator and I will be purchasing the Apeks TX40 for her with the octopus(and I will get to use it then too!!!!!!).
I am even more safety and comfort conscious with choosing my wife's gear than my own and I want her to have the absolute best-and that's the Apeks.I have heard nothing but positive comments and the price is right at DiveInn online scuba.

Good Luck
Mike

Firstly, thank you everyone for your input so far. I appreciate it. OK, so for the Apeks people out there - is there anyone that has one in the New England area and has had it srviced? For the Oceanic people, what is the deal with getting it serviced? Are there stipulations as far as when you have to pay for parts? The reason I'm trying to find this out is that both the Oceanic and Apeks seem to be good regulators, but at $90 for annual service (for my Titan), I am effectively buying a new reg every three years. If one of the two (whether it be Oceanic or Apeks) can be readily serviced around here, for a decent price, then the overall cost of ownership will be less for me in the long run. If the Apeks is $50 cheaper, but I have to mail the thing somewhere to get it serviced, I'm probably not saving myself anything. My reason for looking into another reg isn't just to save $$ on the service costs - I am planning on moving up to a cold water DIN reg and probably a nHP steel tank. But that's another thread....
