Any Dive Rite Venture Wings divers here?

I have a venture wings and I will be getting a Dive Rite backplate.

I was wondering would diving with such a setup require a STA or not?

Also, supposedly if a STA is needed I were to purchase an OMS Single Cylinder Adapter, will it fit my backplate and wing? Or rather are all the STAs from different manufacturers standard in terms of lengths, dimensions and book screw holes positioning?

I just run the cam bands through the slots in my backplate and my wing. Tanks stays tight just like a regular BC. I never liked the adaptors myself, but to each their own.

No, such setup does not require an STA. Though supposedly; and I say again supposedly because I haven't tried it without the STA yet, the tank may flop just a hair without the STA.

I don't know about how one manufacturer's STA is going to fit another manufacturer's BP, but why not just get the Dive Rite SMP. It's designed to fit Dive Rite plates.

You can use it without a STA if the plate has slots for the cam bands. There is a chance that the tank can become askew or twisted without the STA, but would require a bit of force. I'm under the impression that other STAs would fit the Dive Rite plate because the holes should be 11 inches apart.

I dive mine without an STA. It does require attention to tank alignment as you set it up - but once the bands are tightened the tank is as secure as with an STA.

If you want to permanently attach the wing to the plate (marginally useful for hanging everything to dry), use the plastic bolts, not the stainless steel ones - as those might damage the tank over time.

I made a home made STA out of PVC pipe because I wanted to use only one tank cam band and it did not seem sufficiently stabilized without it.

DR setup can be used without STA. I like STA myself mainly for ease of taking things apart for transport and cleanning. If you chose to go with STA, watch out for the cam slot on STA. They usually have cam slot higher than that on the plate. This make tank sits higher, could be a potential issue.

+1 for running the cam bands through the plate, but I do use STAs as trim weights (1lb each). Perfect placement and negates the need for a weight belt. Doesn't get better than that.

I used to have one. I used a single tank adapter with it, I felt that it needed one. Others have already said that it worked without one, but it seemed to me that the tank would shift.

I use a STA with mine. The main reason I use the STA is for ease of switching from doubles to singles. You don't want to have to unthread/ rethread the cam bands every time you switch. The OMS STA should work. As long as the STA uses the standard 11" on center bolt pattern you are good to go. And since DR uses a wider slot on the bottom hole, you have some additional room to work with if the measurements aren't spot on.
