I am very happy with my 2 yr old Aeris 2 and wish another for my son.
I figure I can teach and problem solve it well, and use it as a back-up should my battery (or what not) fail.
Is there anything different in two years? Same dive protocol? Features?

The only real change since they started is the count down safety stop timer. Now, after you dive down and ascend to 20 feet, it will automatically start a 3 minute count down so you can make sure you do a good safety stop without having to do the... "I've got 28 minutes of bottom time, but that might be 28 and 50 seconds... so I'll add 4 and finish my ascent when it says I have 32 minutes of bottom time" Then remember that 4 minutes later...

Not a big deal... but nice!

Thanks. Does it chime the end of the SS period?

Indeed, I do remember the pain of doing the timing for Safety Stops mentally, especially restarting another 3 min. in my early days beacause poor buoyancy control made me drift from 15 to 25 fsw. Others must have had a timer with a helpful 3 min timer/alarm; their actions seemed like military-like precision. Does such a thing exist? It should. Now I like 2-3 min at 20 fsw, 2-3 at 15 fsw, and 2-3 at 10 fsw.... much of which is now done by slowing ascending while swimming back to the boat at these levels. Imagine being able to program such a safety ascent pattern and hearing the feedback chime to check off.
